In this Maya tutorial we will create a semi realistic glass shader in Mental Ray and Maya 2015, this glass material will be applied to our wineglasses and wine bottles 3d models to test the final result.

Mental Ray is still widely used and its pretty powerful rendering engine, so this tutorial will help you create a glass material in no time its pretty straight forward approach and we will be using some tricks to enhance the look of the glass to make it stand out.

We will not use the default Maya shaders in this tutorial like Blinn, Phong and Lambert shaders cause they will not be able to give us a realistic results. instead we will be using the mia material x that comes with Mental Ray and use this powerful shader to create the glass material.

Lastly we will cover briefly the importance of reflection cards and how they influence the look of the glass refraction to make it look more natural and realistic.
